Visiting The Awakening…. (Picture Heavy)

We made it to D.C. to visit the Awakening. It was a gorgeous day. Everyone at the park enjoyed a last climb on the various parts of the sculpture. Mostly families with children were lining up and taking pictures on the sculpture. Strangers would volunteer to take a picture of the whole family. The children created lines so there was no arguing over who’s turn it was next to take a run for the top of the knee. People were lining up at the foot and hand. The only piece that was difficult to get to was of course the face. Here are a few shots of our visit……..

So that you have a general idea of the size of the foot, my husband is 6′5″. Our 14 year old daughter, Colleen, is next to him. Our sons, Charlie (in the black) is 12 and Robbie (in the green) is 10. I, obviously missing from all the photos, am behind the camera….just where I prefer to be… :-)

As the clouds moved in the temperature started to drop. As we drove out of D.C. headed towards Mount Vernon it started to rain. We decided to bypass the free admission into Mount Vernon and head home. We created a few special memories that day….I so wanted to climb the knee myself. I didn’t wear the right sneakers. Apparently my children and husband were waiting for me to give it a go….Maybe when it is placed in its new home…. ;-)
